The painting – “A Berlin Startup” depicts two young people engaged in a discussion inside a room decorated with a distinctly DIY-style aesthetic. The standing figure holds a piece of paper in his hand, articulating an idea that is not yet fully formed; the seated figure points upward with his index finger, as if emphasizing a key judgment or direction. The artist’s inspiration for this gesture comes from the compositional relationship in Saint Matthew and the Angel. In the original work, Saint Matthew records revelation under the guidance of the angel; in this piece, this structure of “revelation” transforms into a mechanism of decision-making within the entrepreneurial context. The difference is that there is no longer any external divine source — the “revelation” comes from the discussion itself, from the imagination of the future, and from the impulse to push uncertainty into reality. What the artist expresses through this gesture is not a passive reception, but an active process of transformation: advancing an undetermined idea into action — a process in which individual ambition and self-worth are simultaneously confirmed and amplified.
