“Unimportant” features a “ceiling” installed in the gallery that can tilt in all directions. The distance from its center to the floor corresponds to the artist Xin Yunpeng’s height (165 cm). Visitors of any stature can enter: some may choose to bend down, while others can walk upright—but in doing so, taller visitors on the opposite side are compelled to stoop. The work engages with the systems of looking and the ontology of exhibition. Through this fixed-yet-flexible installation, the artist positions people relative to one another, prompting reflection on the political spaces we invent and the rules established to govern them.
