As a cultural symbol for wisdom, memory, and family bond, the elephant here is converted into an installation for mourning.

The elephant stood above the tree stump, with the nose cut out, building an alter rate of vertical structure by the fact of “absence.” As the core organ for communication, exploration, survival, and emotional outreach, its “absence” carries with it a collective speechlessness. “Castrating” its power is breaking up its function and symbol. By the variation of scale, the disproportioned big nose rewarded its “absence” with the inflated actual object, physically present but not being there.

The section of the tree stump is a testament to time; the hard, cold cast iron bears witness to the moment that life freezes. The primary black is in intensive silence, absorbing every gaze and interpretation projected on it, and heavily returning the reality and imagery to everyone present.
